Our Commitment to a Safe Working Environment

West Shore Constructors Ltd. is committed to providing a safe working environment for its employees and subcontractors through a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety Program and spirit of consultation and cooperation with its workers. Safety is to always be the first priority and never compromised. Safety is also a condition of employment with West Shore and accountability for safety belongs at all levels, including Senior Management, Managers, Supervisors, and Workers.

Senior Management

It is the responsibility of Senior Management to establish and maintain the Occupational Health & Safety Program, which means ensuring adequate standards, policies, procedures, practices, equipment, and facilities to provide a safe working environment. They are also responsible for ensuring Managers and Supervisors are adequately trained and instructed in these matters so as to be able to implement and promote the contents of the Occupational Health and Safety Program. Senior Management establishes the components and sets the tone for a safe working environment.

Managers & Supervisors

It is the responsibility of Managers and Supervisors to ensure that Workers are trained in and comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Program. They will be charged with ensuring the execution of training, hazard assessments and planning, inspections, investigations, and the program as a whole. They will be knowledgeable with all applicable laws and regulations. They will report to their superiors any real or potential safety hazards or incidents. Managers and Supervisors enforce and execute the components of a safe working environment.

Workers

It is the responsibility of every worker to be knowledgeable of and comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Program, follow the training and instructions of their Supervisors and Managers, and be cognisant of and comply with the applicable laws and regulations. They must report unsafe conditions or incidents and they have the right and responsibility to refuse unsafe work. Workers are to perform their duties to the best of their abilities while observing all components of a safe working environment and have the right to a safe and healthy workplace environment.

Worker Representatives / Health & Safety Committee Members

It is the responsibility of Worker Representatives and Health & Safety Committee Members to participate in inspections, investigations, and the development of safe working practices, procedures, and polices. Worker Representatives and Committee Members represent the Workers in the development and maintenance of a safe working environment.
